How Unit helped Enzo launch premium banking

Helping millennials build real wealth

Enzo is a banking app for millennials. Their goal is to fill an unmet need among the top 50% of earners by giving them access to luxury banking and investing services.

“Today, there isn’t a single place where you can manage all of your banking and investing in a simple, intuitive way,” says Jeremy Shoykhet, Enzo’s co-founder and CEO. “We aim to be that for our customers, while helping them build real wealth.”

Founded in 2021, Enzo quickly earned coverage from financial blogs like MyMoneyBlog and Doctor of Credit. As a result, they built a waitlist of more than 20,000 users—months before their product had launched.

That was due, in part, to a robust feature set and an exciting product roadmap. Today, Enzo’s app includes high-yield checking accounts and an innovative cashback rewards program. In the near future, they plan to launch commission-free trades, access to a financial advisor, and custom-designed, metal debit cards.

What Enzo built with Unit:

  • High-interest personal checking accounts
  • Innovative cash-back rewards program
  • Custom-designed Visa debit cards
  • Fee-free deposits and withdrawals at 55,000+ Allpoint ATMs
  • Fee-free ACH and incoming wire transfers

“We shipped our first cards within weeks”

To offer banking features to their users, Enzo needed a banking-as-a-service provider. They had originally partnered with another vendor in the space, but they were frustrated with the lack of progress, limited customer support, and unhelpful API docs.

“With our previous provider, we had no clear line of sight to launching even the smallest beta version of our product,” recalls Shoykhet.

After a search, Enzo migrated to Unit. Shoykhet says he was drawn by the prospect of going to market quickly, as well as by the light lift required of his team. The fact that Unit streamlines both banking relationships and compliance needs means that Enzo’s finite development resources can be directed to other priorities: things like one-on-one wealth management and custom investment portfolios.

“I asked around in the industry to find out what was the fastest way to launch banking,” recalls Shoykhet. “Everyone kept saying Unit, and that turned out to be correct. Once we signed, our roadmap fell into place quite nicely. We shipped our first cards within weeks.”

A cashback rewards program that drives growth

One of the biggest drivers of Enzo’s growth has been their innovative cashback rewards program, conceived and executed in partnership with Unit.

The rewards program is designed to stand out in a crowded marketplace by specifically rewarding the type of spend typical of Enzo’s high-earning target customer. Reward categories include 10% cashback on Uber, 5% cashback on DoorDash, 2% cashback on rent, and a flat 1.25% cashback on all other purchases.

“With Unit, we built our cashback program from scratch in just a few months,” recalls Shoykhet. “The product team was very receptive to our feedback, and they could not have been more helpful in guiding us along the way.”

Today, Enzo funds their cashback rewards program directly; in the future, they plan to pursue affiliate relationships with specific merchants and card networks.

“We’re the first banking app that offers cashback on rental payments paid via any method, including ACH,” says Shoykhet. “That wasn’t easy, and we couldn’t have done it without the flexibility and responsiveness of Unit’s amazing team.”

“Incredible partners in our journey”

As Enzo builds out their product roadmap, their goal is to become even more valuable to their customers. In practical terms, that could translate into things like physical checks, joint accounts, budgeting features, and even mortgages.

Shoyket says that Unit will be a key partner as Enzo onboards its next 100,000 customers.

“Working with Unit has been transformational,'' says Shoykhet. “They understand our goals, and they’ve guided us through numerous areas of compliance and operations where we had limited experience, coming in.”
